Lafayette, LA (May 15th, 2023) – In a dramatic Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) clash, Crescent City FC showcased their resilience and determination as they triumphed over Louisiana Krewe II with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. Despite facing challenging circumstances, including a delayed kickoff due to a lightning delay and malfunctioning stadium lights, Crescent City displayed their dominance in possession throughout the match. This win proved to be a crucial response following their previous home defeat against Southern States SC, as Crescent City aimed to earn valuable points on the road.
From the onset, Crescent City demonstrated their attacking intent as midfielder, Kenroy Rodriguez, unleashed an early shot that sailed just over the Krewe’s goal in the 6th minute. The pressure continued to mount as Rodriguez tested the Krewe keeper again in the 10th minute, only to be denied by a superb save by Krewe keeper, Zakary Elagamy. As the half progressed, both teams battled for control, but it was Crescent City who appeared more threatening in the final third. In the 26th minute, Rodriguez once again came agonizingly close to breaking the deadlock, as his shot sailed just over the crossbar, leaving the Krewe defense breathing a collective sigh of relief.
The 34th minute brought a moment of danger for Crescent City, as the Krewe mounted a dangerous attack from a well-placed cross, narrowly missing their forward in front of goal. The Krewe would seize an opportunity when they were awarded a free kick just 25 yards out which was beautifully taken and put the home team on the board first. Crescent City’s persistence was finally rewarded in the 44th minute when midfielder Leo Barros proved his clinical ability. Following a Krewe clearance, Barros displayed excellent awareness to collect the ball and expertly slotted it past the Krewe keeper, leveling the score just before the halftime whistle.
The intensity remained high as Crescent City resumed their offensive charge in the second half. Left-back Hector Ramos unleashed a powerful shot that was expertly saved by the Krewe keeper in the 50th minute. The game’s turning point arrived in the 68th minute when Ryan Jeanfreau delivered a pinpoint cross from the right wing, finding Nestor Peralta at the far post. Peralta’s effort took a deflection off a Krewe defender, finding the back of the net and giving Crescent City a well-deserved lead.
As the match progressed, Crescent City continued to create opportunities, with Leo Barros proving instrumental. In the 72nd minute, Barros unleashed another shot on target, testing the Krewe keeper, who made a vital save to keep the scoreline close. The game’s closing stages witnessed both teams engaging in fierce battles, with Crescent City’s goalkeeper, Connor Mouille, making a crucial tip-over save in the 87th minute before being forced out of the game due to a collision.
Crescent City FC’s determination, composure, and attacking prowess prevailed as they emerged triumphant with a 2-1 victory over Louisiana Krewe II. T
