Motagua New Orleans has qualified to the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Due to one of the leagues in the professional division reducing their number of participating teams, Motagua New Orleans, along with the other 14 remaining clubs in the “Open” rounds, have been given automatic berths into the First Round of the 2016 U.S. Open Cup.
“Wow, we were excited to play our region foes (NTX Rayados) in April, but this is even better news” says club coach Tony Martinez. “We set out on a mission after winning the 2014-2015 Louisiana Premier League last year…We wanted to really challenge ourselves and see how far we could go on a regional and national scale.”
Motagua went on to win the USASA Region III Open Cup in June 2015, topping NTX Rayados 3-0 in the finals. In the past, Region III Open Cup champions would receive automatic births in to the US Open Cup, but the rule changed early 2015. At the USASA National Cup in July 2015 against Premier League of America champions, RWB Adria of Chicago, they would come up short in the semifinals conceding an 80th minute goal and falling 1-0.
Motagua will be set to play on Wednesday May 11th, time, venue and opponent to be determined.
