Panama City, FL (October 7th, 2022) – Today, the GCPL announced Florida Roots as its newest member set to begin play in 2023.
“We’re excited to bring a community oriented, professionally run Men’s and Women’s soccer team to the Florida Panhandle,” said Owner and President, Jona Hammond. “The GCPL will allow us to compete against other teams in our region, with a chance to compete nationally by qualifying for the US Open Cup, The National Amateur Cup, and other cup competitions. The new announcement of the Regional Premier Leagues alliance will provide other great opportunities for our club and players.”
Founded by Hammond, Florida Roots’ expectations remain to provide their supporters with the highest quality of soccer on the field and the highest quality partnership to their community. The Roots currently have youth teams in Panama City, Destin, Fort Walton, South Walton, Crestview, and Port St. Joe.
“We are the fastest growing club in the Panhandle,” added Hammond. “We have a large pool of players to pull from as we continue to grow and bring players up through the Roots system. This is only the beginning! Go Roots!”
Florida Roots will be competing in both Men’s and Women’s divisions in 2023.
“This is an exciting addition that’s operating in a region we’ve been wanting to connect with for some time now,” said Vice President, Jonathan Rednour. “They have proven to be a solid organization over the years and have become a steady pathway for the players along the Florida panhandle. We’re anticipating a good showing from them and look forward to their growth.”
The GCPL recently announced their partnership with other regional leagues throughout the country, forming the Regional Premier Leagues. The GCPL continues to provide opportunities for ambitious clubs who are looking for the national league experience at a much more affordable cost in a travel friendly environment.
