Traveling to Lafayette, LA, few gave AFC Mobile a chance; however, the Mobilians came out and impressed with a relatively dominant 3-1 win in Acadia.
The team performance was capped off by the finishing ability of Chisom Ogbonna. Ogbonna scored all three of AFC Mobile’s goals for the first hat-trick in the club’s history. This scoring prowess has Ogbonna currently at the top of the GCPL Golden Boot race and named the Select Player of the Week.

Ogbonna, a youth soccer coach in Mobile, scored 8 goals for AFC Mobile last season. He is well on his way to at least meeting that number as so far this year, he has netted 4. For his contributions to the Azaleas last season, he was named the 2017 AFC Mobile Most Valuable Player and made the All-GCPL Eastern Conference Team. Additionally, he has played for the PDL’s Chicago Fire U23s, the NPSL’s FC Wichita, and has been trained with the MLS’s Chicago Fire SC.
Ogbonna proved his talent last year and so far is replicating that performance for AFC Mobile in the 2017 Gulf Coast Premier League season.
