Mobile, AL (November 14th, 2023) — The Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) has announced the return of AFC Mobile to the league for the 2024 season. After a brief hiatus, AFC Mobile is set to rekindle local rivalries with its comeback to the GCPL.
AFC Mobile originally joined the GCPL in 2017, showcasing great supporter culture during their three seasons before temporarily departing in 2020. During their time in the league, AFC Mobile left an indelible mark, notably achieving the highest attendance record with over 1,500 fans packing the stands during its 2018 match against Gulf Coast Rangers, now Union 10 FC. Their 2019 season saw great success on the field having qualified for their first trip to the playoffs.
Michael Lynch, Member-At-Large for AFC Mobile, expressed the team’s excitement about returning to the GCPL, stating, “We’re thrilled to be rejoining the GCPL and reigniting some local rivalries. We’re buzzing to see everyone for the 2024 season.”
In 2020, AFC Mobile expanded its commitment to soccer in the Gulf Coast region by establishing a youth academy. Over the past three years, the academy has flourished, providing soccer development opportunities to over 500 kids in the Mobile metro area. This initiative underscores AFC Mobile’s continued dedication to nurturing the next generation of soccer talent for the sport in their community.
Jeremy Poklemba, President of the GCPL, emphasized the longstanding relationship with AFC Mobile, stating, “Our communication with AFC Mobile remained open over the years, and we consistently conveyed that our door was always open for their return. We are delighted to welcome them back into the GCPL family and look forward to the spirited competition they bring to the league.”
