As of September 15th, 2016 the Lake City Gamblers out of Lake Charles, Louisiana has decided to fold all operations.
“There’s really nothing more to this then bringing to light the challenges of running and operating an amateur team” said league President, Jeremy Poklemba “You have to applaud their efforts to try and get something off the ground in a non-existing soccer market.”
The Gamblers combined for a 2-1-13 record and finished bottom of the table in both of their seasons. Their most memorable performance took place in front of their home crowd last November against Acadiana rivals, Cajun SC, where their top scoring threat and co-league leader in scoring, Joel Amos, bagged a hat trick to give the Gamblers their first win of the season, 4-1. .
“Their decision was sort of surprise as I felt last year’s efforts with securing a home field at McNeese Soccer Stadium and bringing on a coach were positive steps.” said league Vice President, Jonathan Rednour “This just shows how fragile getting a league like this started in our region can be. Our teams are challenged every year, not only on the field, but off the field trying to build a culture and the support needed to sustain themselves.”
The league will move forward with it’s 2016-2017 season with seven teams.
