PENSACOLA, FL (Nov. 16, 2022) – Pensacola Football Club 1559 (PFC) announced its two-time National Champions women’s program is joining the Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) for 2023. It is the second addition to the GCPL women’s division for 2023 joining Florida Roots from Panama City, FL.
The PFC men’s division, overseen by Nolan Intermoia, will not return for the 2023 season. PFC’s men’s program joined the GCPL in 2017, competing in five seasons with a combined 16-8-23 record.
“The GCPL was a great fit for our (women’s) team because it offers a balance of top-level competition without over-burdensome travel requirements,” said Owner Justin Witkin.
PFC underwent ownership changes in 2019 and has since strengthened its relationship with local youth organization, Coastal Rush, which recently announced partnerships with established youth clubs along the Alabama and western Florida Panhandle.
“The Pensacola FC women’s team has a rich history of success winning and competing in multiple national championships in a variety of women’s leagues. The team expects to continue and build upon that success in the GCPL,” added Witkin.
PFC’s women’s program was founded as the Gulf Coast Texans in 2011. Winning both the 2012 and 2019 Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) titles and appearing in the 2017 and 2018 WPSL finals, PFC has shown plenty of prestige on the national stage. Its most notable recognition was receiving the 2019 Club of the Year award by Protagonist Soccer. A team which featured forward and 2019 African Women’s Footballer nominee, Uchenna Kanu, who represented Nigeria in the 2019 World Cup.
“This is another great addition to our growing women’s division,” said Vice President Jonathan Rednour. “We anticipated the level of play and standards to gradually grow over the years and adding a program like this speaks volumes for the successful upward trajectory we’re seeing”
