Pensacola, FL (December 9th, 2022) – Today the GCPL announces the addition of Pensacola Bay United as the latest club to join the GCPL men’s division. Pensacola Bay United was formed after the 2022 GCPL season with Nolan Intermoia, Lance Nelson and Cole Chancellor separating from the Pensacola FC GCPL outfit.
“In 2017, a good friend, David Kemp, called me asking if I wanted to compete in a league that would have good competition across the gulf coast,” Pensacola Bay United President Nolan Intermoia said. “That’s when Pensacola FC was reborn, however, the last few years it was very apparent that Pensacola FC’s efforts to have a NPSL and GCPL side were nothing more than two separate teams just sharing the same name.”
The club’s vision is to bring a more community oriented approach that offers an emphasis on the recreational aspect of the sport in and around Pensacola bay. Their ambition is to utilize the talent from their GCPL roster to help give back to the local youth players through offering camps and recreational play throughout the summer months.
“During my time in the PDL, I was coached by a man named Tony Colistro, who was tactically one of the smartest coaches I know,” added Intermoia. “He saw a gap of talent between club and rec soccer, so his train of thought was having skilled players offer their services, coaching, giving the rec parent coaches a chance to be parents while their children were coached either by a collegiate player or players trying for the professional ranks. This is something we want to bring to Pensacola.”
“We have a great relationship with Nolan and his crew,” said GCPL Vice President, Jonathan Rednour. “This move to create their own club and play under their own crest was highly encouraged by the league. We look forward to seeing them grow their brand in Pensacola.”
Pensacola Bay United will play their games at Ashton Brosnaham Stadium and compete in the East Conference of the GCPL.
