OAK GROVE, MS (Jan. 17, 2023) – The GCPL has announced Southern States SC (SSSC) as its newest member joining the men’s division for 2023.
Founded in 2015, Southern States SC set forth their mission to provide well-organized, elite level soccer that provides high-quality training and competition for every athlete based on their personal ability and needs while striving to promote a positive culture for youth sports on an elite level of performance and commitment to the sport of soccer.
“We pride our organization on providing a culture where positive, high level training and world class facilities are the norm.,” said Owner Carl Reynolds. “Our vision is to provide the most professional environment in the region and every decision we make as an organization is made with that in mind.”
The Oak Grove club has wasted no time setting the tone of their mission having reached the second round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup after qualifying through their 2021 summer season. The club not only has seen success on the field, but has developed a state of the art training facility, The Oakes Training Center, which provides multiple professional amenities for its members.
“Having been a guest twice [at The Oakes], I can’t say there are many clubs on the gulf coast with the luxury this facility provides,” said Vice President, Jonathan Rednour. “As impressive as their facilities are, their hospitality standards are just as class. I actually look forward to making that trip each year.”
Southern States will be the fourth Mississippi club added to the GCPL men’s division for 2023 joining the central conference, tentatively, as ongoing talks with other potential clubs could alter their alignment.
“We have witnessed the GCPL provide a consistent and reliable product over the last few years,” added Reynolds. “Many college coaches we have spoken to place great value on the GCPL, and this of course was a driving force in providing this for our players.”
“We’ve had open communications [with SSSC] for some time now, learning more about their ambitions and plans,” added Vice President Jonathan Rednour. “We were thrilled to get the follow up and have them join the GCPL. Another quality club added to the mix.”
